Volunteers at Arizona Science Center

More nonprofits are beginning to look at the Baby Boom generation for their potential assets: time, experience and renewed interest in service. This group is an enormous pool of highly skilled workers and volunteers.

In September 2007, Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust partnered with RespectAbility, a program of the National Council on Aging, to launch a 10-site implementation of Maricopa Models of Significant Service.

These pilot projects each received $40,000 grants to implement experienced volunteer model programs. Over the two-year grant period, the nonprofit partners engaged in designing best practices as well as learning from each other and from experts in the field.
