Access to the foundations of individual health and wellbeing – the non-clinical determinants of health.

Access to essential health services through health insurance or the healthcare safety net, telehealth and transportation services, and practitioners with relevant language and cultural competencies.

The Trust’s support for medical research is limited to trust-initiated investments in local centers of excellence that strengthen the biosciences ecosystem and workforce.

EXAMPLES

A $10 million investment in the collaboration between Creighton University and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) helps provide improved access and quality of care to people most in need while growing skilled medical professionals for Arizona. The SVdP Virginia G. Piper Medical Clinic serves as the primary teaching facility for Creighton University medical students; health disparities are reduced and team-based interprofessional care and treatment is improving patient outcomes and reducing healthcare costs.

To address the predicted workforce needs for the nursing profession, Piper Trust supported Maricopa Community College District with a grant to create and implement the licensed Fast Track Practical Nursing program now available at GateWay, Glendale, and Mesa Community Colleges.

Grant investments in Gregory’s Fresh Market and Activate Food Arizona expanded access to fresh foods for low-income older adults and families through mobile pantries and produce markets.
