Our Grants

The Piper Trust’s grantmaking focuses on Virginia Galvin Piper’s commitment to improving the quality of life for residents of Maricopa County. Reflecting Mrs. Piper’s own grantmaking, the Trust awards grants in six core program areas:

Arts & Culture

Children

Education

Healthcare & Medical Research

Older Adults

Religious Organizations

Competitive Grantmaking

Piper Trust conducts rigorous competitive grantmaking. Program, evaluation, communication and finance staff work closely with potential grantees to ensure that projects are focused, meet the Trust’s funding guidelines and address longer term needs.

Special Investments

Piper Trust funds special projects identified by the Trust to accomplish program goals. These projects can bring national program models to Maricopa County or draw together nonprofit partners to forge collaborations for long-term, communitywide impact. Other special investments include Piper Trust’s ATLAS and AGILE Projects.  ATLAS is designed to strengthen the organizational and operational structure of a select group of nonprofits. Through a Trust-initiated process, select nonprofits (grantees) become a cohort where they respectively assess lifecycle stages and develop comprehensive plans for building organizational capacity. AGILE supports building the operational capacity and organizational resilience of a Trust-selected set of mid-sized grantee arts organizations. By employing “a capacity + capitalization” approach to organizational resilience, AGILE aims to build an organization’s capacity and capital to weather the unexpected while effectively carrying out their mission.
