Message From The Trustees of Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust
May 14, 2018
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Mary Jane Rynd
The Trustees of Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust have appointed a new president and CEO. It is our pleasure to share this important news with you.
Mary Jane Rynd, a 17-year Trust veteran who has been serving as executive vice president, has been named president and CEO. She will be assuming her new role June 2, 2018. Mary Jane is replacing Dr. Susan Pepin, who is leaving after four years with the Trust to join Arizona State University (ASU) as managing director of its new Office of Health and Clinical Partnerships.
Mary Jane worked with Virginia Galvin Piper, serving as her tax adviser and helping her establish a charitable legacy—what Virginia called “a moment-to-moment, dignified responsibility of a truly high calling in human affairs and human relations.”
We have had the privilege and honor of working with Mary Jane since 2001, greatly benefiting from her expertise, guidance, leadership—and enormous heart!
Since 2014, Sue has led the Trust’s vision as it seeks to advance work in its six core program areas and enhance the overall health and well-being of the community.
We are enormously grateful to Sue for her years of dedication to the Trust and its mission and wish her the best in her new position at ASU. We will continue working with Sue for the benefit of both institutions and the community at large.
Before joining the Trust, Mary Jane was a KPMG partner and a founding partner at Rynd, Carneal & Ewing. Her 17-year tenure, solid leadership skills, and contributions to the Trust’s enduring, sound fiscal position were instrumental in guiding the Trustees’ selection. Mary Jane is uniquely positioned to continue the Trust’s momentum built under that of former CEO and current Trustee, Dr. Judy Mohraz and continued by Sue.
During our current fiscal year, Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust plans to invest a total of $22 million in Maricopa County through grants to nonprofits and the funding of its own charitable interests.
We look forward to continuing this momentum by working together to enrich health, well-being, and opportunity for the people of Maricopa County.
Sincerely,
Jim Bruner
